WHO ARE ORBEA?
Orbea officially started in 1840. But it wasnât until 1930 that they began manufacturing bicycles.
All their bikes are hand-assembled in Mallabia, Spain (the Basque country). Itâs a company that isnât focussed on cutting corners on build quality.
WHAT THE CARPE IS ABOUT
The Orbea Carpe is designed for riders who are looking for a reliable commuter and general fitness recreational hybrid that has a distinct focus on build-quality and comfort.
It has a relatively upright seating position; relaxed yet sporty enough to make it exciting to ride on bike paths and around suburbia.
The closest comparison in our range to the Carpe is the Giant Cross City and Liv Alight.
Compared to the Cross City, the Carpe is a little shorter and more upright compared to the Cross CIty. So itâs perfect for both men and women who are getting abc into riding after an absence or want something to ride with the kids.
THE CARPE 40 BUILD
The Carpe 40 model is positioned at the affordable end of their premium hybrid range.
It features disc brakes for better stopping power in dry and wet conditions; making riding in these conditions much safer. Itâs also a lot easier to maintain.
To keep the drivetrain simple, Orbea has decided to use a single 42-tooth chainring on the front paired to 7 gears on the back, ranging from 12-tooth to 32-tooth sprockets. This gives riders plenty of gears to tackle a variety of gradients. Most of the components are sourced from Shimano too.
A lightweight aluminium frame and fork keep the Carpe 40 feeling light and easy to manoeuvre. But too light can often make the bike feel harsh. So theyâve paired the chassis with 38mm wide tyres to mute vibrations and deliver a smoother ride.
Kendaâs tyre also delivers puncture protection via a thick kevlar belt and reflective sidewalls for much better low-light visibility.
